Hello again, completed my first timed ride, the sevenoaks 80km.

Really enjoyed it weather was perfect and met some nice people and didn't feel like a plum in full lycra

So will be looking at the events list for next year or maybe try and sneek one more before the year is out. Has anyone done the 70 mile Canterbury ride is is it worth doing.

Bye for now
Simon

I did the event too, also my first timed event. Did the 80km route and managed 3hrs 34mins, including a 10-15minute stop at the feed station for some attention to the gears of another rider's bike. I was reasonably happy with that time for a first effort - but will be looking to improve next year.
I too had to get off and walk the last hill, but other than that I really enjoyed it. Have you seen the photos online? www.sportivephoto.com Click the link on the left to the Kent ride and then enter your rider number to see yourself in horrible sweaty glory!!!!!
I was doing it on a 12 year old, borrowed Dawes Giro 400 - steel frame and crap gearing!!! (my excuse anyway) Just got to wait for October to get my Cycle2work order in - still trying to decide on a bike and will be looking to do more Sportives as well.
So here's a question-
Specialized Allez Elite?
Trek 1.5?
Boardman Carbon?
Sorry for hijacking your post but not getting much joy with opinions elsewhere!

All 3 are very good bikes. I have a Trek 1.5 and have not regretted it since I bought it and love it.

Best thing to do is go to the LBS which stocks the bikes (if they do) and test them.

Best bike will be the one that best fits you.
