For many of you hardier souls, 100km may not seem so far, but on Sunday I completed my first 100km ride. It was a Action research challenge ride in the Chilterns. I know the area reasonably well but the hills are more like the Alps than I remember from zipping aroung in the car! It was a fun day, in parts!, and the organisation was very good. I would recommend them to a less experienced rider as a starting point, plus you get a tee shirt and a medal!! I was surprized at how emotional I felt at the end

Upsides - sense of achievement, good atmosphere, no massive aches and pains!
Downside - Punctures x 2!, gear slippages, unable to adjust, Hills, very hot

Anyhow thats me now hooked, onto the next challenge a 100 miler perhaps xx(

Nice one Chief, I did the action medical 100m suffolk sunrise last month and have to agree they are very well organised.

If you can do a 100k then the jump up to 100m is not that great xx(

The action medical Trossachs Ton was also very well organised.

Well done Chiefwiggum! Next step is the imperial! xx(

watch it targets are addictive, my next stop is a double imperial and I only wanted the bike to commute 13 miles to to work.

know you've lost your cherry you simply have to come on a FNRttC. Like most things you do in the dark it is way more fun than a charity ride.

Once you've done 100km, 100 miles shouldn't be a big jump. Just make sure you are well-rested beforehand and don't get on the treadmill of ever longer distance, without recovery in-between.

The biggest jump is from 100 miles ( 160 Populaire ) to Randonneur 200.

The Populaire still SHOULD have a minimum speed of 10 km ( 10 - 20 kmh ), although many organisers set the min speed to 14.3 because they don't want to be waiting around at the finish until 16 hours after the start.
There aren't many 160s for this reason. many riders jump from 100km to 200km with sometimes disasterous endings.
The Rando is 125+ miles and the minimum speed rises to 14.3 kmh or 15 kmh. Riding speed will be 2 - 3 mph faster. It doesn't sound a lot, but the power requirement is 50% greater.

If the imperial ton is set to Randonneur speeds, it will be ridden like a 'short' 200 km.
50% more effort per mile....Be very aware of this. :girl:
