Hi I'm looking for a commuter bike to do up to 60 miles per week but only have a budget of about £300 to 350. Would a Specialized Sirrus be any good, or can anyone recommend something better? Replies much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I`d personally get on the Evans cycle website, opt for the type of bike you`re after and search by selecting the price tags at the top.Whatever you fancy order and try it out. Evans are really good and will price match anything you go for.
I personally bought a Scott Sportster that I`ve got nothing but good things to say about.I`m also looking at a Scott road bike for the spring.
Good luck in your search, don`t forget to try a bike or two out before buying though.

You'll be surprised how versatile this bike is.

3 speed Sturmey, Dynohub, chainguard and step-through frame. Long splashflap and decent size backbox.

I'm sorely tempted to accept your low offer of £300, but I like it too much.

Scott Sportster gets my vote. I've had one almost a month now and I love it. It's made the commute fun again. Evans price matched an online bargain at Hargroves Cycles. Can't go wrong with that.

Being a sirrus owner, I'd say that it'd be a wise move. I've not heard anything bad said about them; other than that they are so good/ fast/ enjoyable, you soon get bitten by the cycling bug have the urge to buy n+1 ;-) Try it out and see if you like it too.

Specialised Sirrus is a good bike, or consider a Trek 7.1, maybe 7.3. (I would say that, I have a 7.3).

Don't disregard buying used, you could get a very nice one for £200 or less, that leaves you up to £150 to upgrade with mudguards, a rack, lights, and maybe a pannier. You will need a lock too. Don't scrimp on locks.
Extras I know, but if you are commuting, you want clean and reasonably dry legs and a clean dry arse, hence the mudguards. The rack and pannier is good if you carry clothes into work. Saves you cramming everything into a rucksack, you'll get a sweaty back. Lights are a no brainer, at this time of year you want good LEDs, so save maybe £40 to get a good set.

1. Got a splashflap down to the floor.
2. Yeh, got mudguards.
3. Yeh, got a rack with a nice big box.
4. Yeh, got a dynohub.

I have a TREK 7.3fx and it is a great bike for commuting, going through the woods, touring long distances with all the camping gear on. I cannot fault it.

It is light to lift around as well and fast.
