I believe that Black cycling clothing was originally used for the then illegally organised UK TT road races around the 1890's, so you couldn't easy be seen.

to be fair, theres a few more cars about now than in the 1890's & even the 1960's

I did several warehouse jobs that required the wearing of high vis, on one of them it didn't stop the forklift driver giving me a nudge one afternoon, fortunately no damage done. Personally I'm not worried about what people wear, but if they wear something that stands out it makes things easier. And why is it that bike ninjas are usually spotted by people at night?
