In various posts, it has been debated / argued etc., about the pros and cons of wearing light / dark colours and their respective perceived visibility. There are those who claim that there is 'no evidence to say that bright colours make any difference', or words to that effect.
If that is the case, then why do traffic police, emergency service operatives and road workers always wear hi-viz clothing - ?

It's a bit late now but no doubt someone in the morning will tell the OP that grey cycling jerseys on grey roads on a grey day are easy if not easier to see than high visibility jerseys.on grey roads on a grey day.

Are you bored and fishing to see if you can provoke a better scrap than Gavroche?

But just to pick up on this.

Partly the same reason Stephen Fry wears safety goggles when he does his innocuous parlour tricks on QI, but the lads building the high buildings in the early 1900's wandered about on open scaffolding 100s of feet above the ground protected by nothing more than a flat cap and a lit woodbine?

I prefer contrast during the day, I deliberately wear dark clothing and a Sam Browne belt. The ubiquitous bright yellow builders jacket type garment could be almost any number of professionals or joggers or a walking bus of schoolkids or a guide dog & not necessarily in the carriageway.

Big slabs of colour aren't the be all and end all of it for me as I want to properly stand out from the crowd, not just be another yellow vest in a sea of yellow vests.

Serious head off -popcorn head on.

Simples - they don't always wear hi-viz clothing!

When there's a whole lot of other warning signs, sure they do. But I don't intend carrying a set of flashing blue or orange lights on the bike!

Contrast over colour, anytime.

Might refit that amber rotating beacon. The traffic lights failed, but they were set to Red.

Paramedics are in Dark Green, Fire Fighters, Khaki(with reflective strips built in). Round here at least.
