Sayings can last an awful long time, but quite often it is not clear exactly what they mean. For example, they might derive from the age of sail or from sport. So, invent your own saying, and if it catches on, you will be quoted for generations without anyone quite understanding what they're saying. I'll go first:

You can't drive your car and polish it.

I think this might comment on the fact that it is difficult to maintain a thing while using it.

( it was an instant, unplanned retort to some one who once said to me...if I was the boss, I'd sack you, following a bout of larking about at work)

"If your leg looks like it's going to drop off, let me know" - often said to my son when he was little and often ended up with grazed knees, bruised shins etc from being too enthusiastic on his bike.

Take the tablets use the cream if it doesn't stop itching on the next 5 days then go eee a Doctor
