CO2 cyclinders on aircraft

I thought I knew it all but what are the rules on packing CO2 on aircraft and should it be in hand luggage or in the hold?

As far as I know, you can't take CO2 cylinders on a plane at all.

Pressurised containers are not allowed on planes at all.

completely different. They were oxygen with detanators.

The rules also vary from country to country. Twice in Lanzarote I have been told by the specialist security staff checking in my bike box that two CO2 bottles is ok, but no more, and they must be in hold baggage

You will have to tell your Airline that you are carrying them...also no more than 2...to be taken in HOLD BAGGAGE only.Your Airline will let Security know you are carrying them in HOLD BAGGAGE,they will be okay to travel...
