wouldnt be without mine. a single cartridge can pump a 700c tyre to 120psi so depends what pressure you use, as to how many youll need, but i always carry three one just incase i get a double blow out and then still have a spare, so you might want to carry 4?

As @Lee_M said re the pressure you need.
I am assuming that the 22 inch tyres only need around 65-85 psi and it depends on the tyre profile, again an assumption that they are 1.5s so a standard 16 gram cartridge would take a tyre up to pressure but realistically you need to try one.

You never know, there may be a kind CCer in your area that has one for you to try, r ask at your LBS.

I have one on each trike as well as a small morph pump, for initial inflation of a tube on replacement and emergency use if I run out of cartridges. I usually carry spare tubes and 4 cartridges, one will inflate mt 2x20" Big Apples hard enough to ride on. Be aware CO2 seems to leach out of the tube fairly fast compared to air so if I use it I replace the used cartridge on the trike and let the tyre down and use my track pump to refill with air.

Hope this helps, see my signature for my trikes.

Yeah it does as the co2 atom is smaller so can pass through the semi permeable wall of a tube quicker. They're a get home measure more than anything. I've used mine a couple of times and always empty the tube when I get home and start again with fresh stuff

Some of them are, Genuine Innovations Ultraflate for example(you can also preload a cartridge as the trigger locks) but some are spring based like the one you linked.

Thanks for the chart that's excellent to see the amount of cartridges needed  I like to be prepared so I need to buy a decent hand pump for my trike too would you recommend the C02 pump I previously posted the link to? Is a morph pump a type or model?

Thanks I didn't know about the leaching air out

I wouldn't want to recommend something I haven't used (only the GI Ultraflate+ so far) but maybe someone else can.

By morph pumps I assume you mean conventional handpump with co2 capability?

I like the sound of this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/XLC-Bike-CO..._1_2?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1361106911&sr=1-2as the cartridge and pump head can be mounted without opening the cartridge to prevent air leakage & the regulator enables controlled airflow.
Not a bad price that.

I think that Byegad is referring to the Topeak Morph range of pumps. I carry the Topeak Road Morph on my road bike and it is excellent, a foot plate folds out allowing you to hold is fairly securely with one foot and use it as a mini-track pump. The pump can easily get my road tires above 100 psi.

As your trike has lower pressure wheels than a road bike, as well as more storage/mounting room on the frame, I'd recommend the Topeak Mega Morph. It has a slightly larger barrel to deliver more volume of air allowing wider tires to be inflated easier/quicker. All of the Morph pumps apart from the smallest version also have built in gauges.

knowing how you insist on extreme accuracy, I though it my duty to point out that co2 would be a molecule (made of 3 atoms in this case), not an atom.
