Hi . I guess one of the most important spends for a new cyclists is shorts/leggings .Most of the shorts look to have padding in the 'delicate area' but can anyone recommend shorts regardless of price that should be comfortable and cool (not hot) for a fairly bony 9.5 stone 68 yrs guy .

Get a second mortgage first

You didn't say if you wanted lycra or baggy shorts, in all you get what you pay for, avoid the very cheapest - something in the £25-£50 range should be fine. See the thread about Decathlon shorts, if you have a store in your area.

Thanks . Will have a look at Decathlon also . On the bike 'track' now. Just found a nice S/H Specialized Allez Sport in my size and only about 50 miles away .
