Clonk clonk clonk ...arrrggghh!

This isnt on my bike, but a mate has a very annoying clonk coming from the general area of the crankset. It can be felt through the right foot on each downstroke and sounds horrid and hollow. BUT, every now and then it just stops for a while, then returns apparently for no reason. We've looked at the mech, th echain, the indexing, checked the cleats etc...but suspect internal devil doings above our expertise field!

Its a campagnolo veloce groupset. The bike was involved in an off recently due to being hit by a car at low speed, but still hit nevertheless.



Any thoughts before it goes to LBS ?

Are you sure its the crankset, my rear hub was making a noise like that, sticky pawls.

Bottom bracket would be my guess.

bottom bracket was my gut feeling but i was hoping it wasnt..ok...off to lbs.
