Clix dropouts

How do Clix Dropouts work then? I have them on my Trek FX 7.3, my front wheel hub looks much like a normal quick release hub, but it's not. I open the lever and sod all happens. I have to do some serious fiddling about with springs and leverage and some wierd attached washers to eventually get the wheel off. The usual unwinding of the opposing "acorn" nut seems to do little, if anything.

Is there something simple I'm missing? And what is the point of these things anyway? Are these things the "lawyer lips" I have read about?

Is there something I should know about refitting a clix dropout after I've had a puncture?

I can't really see the point og the release over a Campag style skewer other than stopping Americans falling over reducing claims from American owners. However it really is easy to work - no twisting or spinning; just pull & push.

They save you having to file the lawyer lips from the fork dropouts. Quite a good idea, I may get one.

That's about it.

It saves faffing about adjusting the QR every time you replace a front wheel.

But it does stop quick & easy swapping of front wheels between bikes. The skewer is "adjusted" for a specic fork.
