Wow, they are embarrassing arent they! The few seconds of wobble as you work out which way you are going to topple must be a sight for others. Even more so for the lady in the car in front who was watching you approach in her rearview mirror, only for you to then tumble to one side. :becool:

Knee knocked and grazed, shoulder and hip a bit sore; bar tape and brake/shifter scratched. Ego ruined.

First time I had bothered to tighten the strap on both feet since I started re-riding; I usually leave the left foot in the clip but not strapped.

I had a stalled start on a training run on Friday. One local junction has been changed, so it's a steep hill start. Having riden double sided SPD's for weeks on commutes, I was having difficulty getting into a very stiff set of Look road pedals - fortunately I didn't fall off, but had a very slow start.

I don't clip my left foot in until I have a bit of momentum.

Thats just what I had done. As I said, I usually don't bother, but was going up a hill/incline I've done a few times before and wanted to see if there really was a benefit of having both feet strapped and being able to push and pull. It was interesting, will do it again for sure.

Wait till you go clipless then ! It's difficult to pedal up a steep incline with one clipped in leg, and the other with a slippy cleat perched on the wrong side of the clipless pedal. Happens to us all.

I dont find it a problem, I get one BIG turn of the pedals with my right foot and that gives me enough speed to clip in.

I stay clipped in and grab a traffic bollard, railing or traffic light!

I've found peds can be handy for this purpose too - not sure of the point of them otherwise...
