Okay, so first clipped ride on saturday, which would have been successfull apart from stupid shoes breaking immediately , though the 2nd set of connections I used worked okay . Managed to fall off at my backdoor...

now that was okay , as nobody saw ;)

cue today, first commute clipped in,, got in okay, worked on the principle of take the left foot out early and dont clip it back until sure of a good run ;).
going home, here i stopped to turn, essentially positioned 180degrees from how that van is..

its evening, luckily not too busy, but say 20 cars waiting at various points..

who then witness a stupid stationary cyclist manage to fall off , with nobody anywhere near him .. [ i was about to set off, but leant to the right , start falling and didnt manage to unclip on the right before i'd pretty much ended on the floor  ]
figured only 20people managed to laugh at it, so you lot could too

I'm glad I'm not alone - I didn't unclip in time on Saturday morning returning from my first fnrttc, fell off and landed in a pile of horse poo! Not quite sure why the offending turd was on a cycle path next to an effing great road between Southend and London but at least it provided my sleep-deprived companions with some amusement!

Happened to me a couple of months back while hanging a right at the end of my road whhile simultaneously dropping a gear to cope with a sharp change in gradient (It was 5:30 in the morning and didn't think ahead). The chain jammed and everthing froze. It was slow-motion time with me trying to get my left foot out of the toe clip while I sort of teetered in and out of balance. The inevitable happened and I went crashing in an ungainly heap on the pavement.
OK, 5:30 don't sound to bad. Who the hell would be up at that hour to look at me sprawled on the pavement like an old drunkard? Answer: A couple with a suitcase heading to the train station... As they walked passed me I made some humerous comment. I can't remember what it was I said but I can remember the apparent look of disgust on their faces as they walked round me... They obviously didn't see the funny side of it...

I have fallen a good few times getting used to spd pedals, usually leaving or coming into the house, interestingly. At that time the neighbours must have thought my pre-ride drink was vodka.

However, once I loosened the resistance though pretty much as far as the pedals will allow, it was much, much easier to escape a tricky situation. Are your pedals too tight - is unclipping too much of a struggle? Get the allen key out and unloosen the resistance, perhaps?

personally, i just forgot the right was clipped in and the fact that 'if i lean to the right then the left foot being unclipped isnt much help'..

cycled past the spot this morning ( yay full distance 12 miles 1hr5'cycling') and waved a fist at the junction ( nice and cathartic ;) )..

It's an immutable Law of Nature that any clipless moments will be in front of an audience! My one moment (so far!) was, of course, witnessed by a white van man and several forummers! Don't worry, now that you've got it out of the way you can concentrate on your cycling - happy riding!

Nature's second law of clipless moments is that just when you think it won't happen again , it does.

After having my first clipless moment in the first week of switching over to SPD's i thought i'd gotten it out of the way, several months later (on the Devon CycleChat Ride) i had a stationary moment in front of everyone .. mind you though i did look well ard riding into Exmouth with the blood running down my leg

I haven't fallen over yet thankfully. My SPD pedals were way to tight as they came so I undid them all the way to slacken the springs off which was way to loose. Midway is just about right for me. My SPD-SL pedals are as loose as they can go though.

Nature's 3rd law is that anyone who rides clipless WILL have a clipless moment. If they haven't had one yet they will.........

I was at a red light behind one of those stupidly huge motorbikes. My thinking went that once the light went green, I wouldn't see him for dust. Got red/amber stood on pedals, got green clipped in. Motorbike didn't move. I did, sideways. The lorry driver behind me just shook his head laughing. Motorbike moved on, cyclists passed, normal service of staring at strange man in gutter resumed....
