Clipless Shoes Rubbing!

I am regularly commuting to work and am having trouble with my clipless shoes. I bought a cheap pair of Muddy Fox shoes and (I know you'll say you get what you pay for) they just seem a little too wide, to the extent where they are rubbing against the bike while I pedal and causing an irritating squeaking noise. I wanted to seek some wisdom here as to whether I need to tweak the set up of them, or whether I need to invest in some more expensive footwear? If the advice is the latter option can anyone recommend a well fitted good quality pair that will be good for someone who cycles 120 miles a week.

Thanks as Always

My DHB shoes rub sometimes. To be honest I've learned to live with it. You might be able to move the cleat inwards a bit to help but to be honest if they're comfortable now, and remain so, better to live with the noise than start putting strain on tendons and doing yourself an injury.

Thanks for the responses, they are road specific the pedals are the entry shimano's they are solid all round but quite narrow (much the same as other types), will need to live with it I think as the shoes are comfortable too. Just wanted to check if this was common or just because I've got the wrong set up etc

You have slight side to side adjustment on road cleats so you may be able to adjust the cleats so you eliminate any rub as long as you don't end up in an uncomfortable position for your knees. I don't think you should expect ongoing rubbing issues though with a well set up set of cleats shoes and pedals.

I played about for a while on the turbo to get the SPD-SL set up I found most comfortable and the inside of my cranks can brush the ankles so I sometimes have a mark on my socks; I prefer a mark to sore knees

As you say it's better to have a squeak than any pain so I guess I'm going to have to deal with it.
