It is that simple, once you get the hang of it.
But it won't make you look like Jessi Stensland

Or is it?

I intend to go clipless and hopefully it will be as simple as this. I'll start with the M-520 SPD I have the Lidl shoes so if I don't get on with them it han't cost much but hopefully it will be good.

She can't be a very good cyclist. She is riding on the wrong side of the road:biggrin::biggrin:

I ventured out on my SPDs again today .All went well thankfully.I am using trainers on busy traffic routes at the mo but hope to master the clipless eventually.

PS if you get A530 pedals you could keep same pedals even if you dont get on with clipless.

Cheers Banjo, I'll look at them.

Now a really stupid question,
cleats, do they come seperate from the pedals are they with the pedals or shoes or what ;)

When you get your cleats .... make sure the bolts holding them to the shoe are really tight. But beware the threads on the Lidl shoes, not really up to the job and you can easily break them.

I bought a set of dhb road shoes from wiggle. They fit really well and have holes tapped in for different types of cleats.I like them but cant comment too much as a beginner but they did get good reviews from the bike mags. £46

I got size 42 (brit size 8 )which is my normal shoe size ,they fit perfectly.

Cleats and screws came with the Shimano pedals I bought.

If you get them buy something small to knock the price up to £50 so you then get £10 off.

If you want to go to SPD SL or Look Keo etc etc, these are 'road' shoes and damned awkward to do any walking in them ,, so you doesnt!
My Gaerne shoes being blingy white and carbon soled are tucked up for winter.. shoes like this have no grip whatsoever off the bike.
I can recommend Gaerne as a brand and you may get lucky and see some in the 'sale' after Xmas... note that SPD SL cleats do have a wear rate and are not particularly cheap either.
Again road pedal prices are high... again you can look out for bargains

as a plus point. riding in proper road shoes is a dream

I have M-520 SPD and Lidl shoes and they are fine. If you don't initially get on with them don't give up its worth sticking with it.

I've only had 2 full clipless moments both early on, followed by 3 near ones 2 caused by people unexpectedly stopping on steep hills in front of me and one because I unclipped the wrong side 1st and the camber of the road tilted me the other way.

Yesterday I found I'd destroyed my left clipless pedal and needed a swift and cheap replacement.

I found these on the Decathlon website, ran round to the London store bought a pair and borrowed a pedal spanner to fit them.

It occurred to me that they were ideal for anyone wanting to try out riding clipless and were possibly daunted by the cost that can be involved.

More importantly, the pedals come with the cleats provided.

I've done about 10 miles so far today and the pedals seem fine to me.

Shouldn't do, I did mine with a regular spanner. Some pedals have a smaller gap between the pedal and the crank, that's what the special thin pedal spanners are for.
