Hi guys,

I've been reading the FAQ of the clipless pedals, and speaking to some other cyclists who swear by them, so have decided maybe to invest in a pair for my London to Kenya tour.

Since I've never used or bought a pair in my life I was hoping for some guidance on how much for a "decent" pair that should get the job done?

I dont need the top of the range ones for racing, just something that will last to Kenya. And i wouldnt really use them for walking in order to protect them for longer...

Based on all of this, is £50 reasonable for a pair of clipless cycling shoes?

Also the pedal, how awkward are they to ride, should the shoe fail?

Thanks!

For pedals, consider the Shimano M324 - just bought a set myself. Clips on one side, regular pedal on the other.
For shoes, again any decent Shimano's should come in under £50 - I have a thing about brown trainers and so have been looking at the MT22's.

ah! They are great pedals, but consider this...........if you're cycling a long distance you want two of everything. I'd buy a pair of cheapish Shimano lace-up spd shoes, take some spare cleats and get doublesided pedals - something like XTs. If one of the springs go on the pedals you can still use them. XTs are also a bit less thief-friendly. Just a thought.

i got the shimano MT33's cheap at £40 and comfy to boot, they have a glass fibre re-enforces sole, which so far has prett much eliminated the plantar extension issues i was having with my soft trainers!
mt22's or 33's shouldn't see you wrong.

i also have the 324's and i love em.

Ended up reading loads of reviews, and bought these cycling shoes i've never heard of called 'dhb m1'. I read a lot of reviews, it had 500+ and good rating and for £50 quid they seemed decent enough.

Pedal wise i opted for the Wellgo WPD823 SPD Pedals. £18 quid. I know i shouldnt really cut back on equipment, but hopefully these babies wont let me down. Might take my standard pedals with me just incase.

Cleats were included as well, so I couldnt resist.

Did a loaded cycle today and yesterday, and hoping these shoes will make it easier now, as i can feel all the strain purely on the front lower quad, ideally the hamstrings might be able to kick in with the cycling shoes now

Will post back after ive tested them out!

yeah i just returned the ones i bought.
The biggest size they did was a UK12, which is usually my normal shoe size, but they were too small.

So going to order a different shoe at UK13.
Will check out those stelvios!
