Does anyone else suffer from SPD cleat squeak? Things are usually okay for the first dozen or so miles, then it starts. Always the left foot. Shifting the foot slightly makes it stop, but only for a while. Drives me nuts! Who else suffers, and has anyone found a cure?

Cheers.

I get it all the time.

You might have a bit of grit on the cleat/pedals which is grinding away as you turn the crank.

Wipe both with a damp cloth when you get home and apply a little oil to the pedal surface.

Should be nice and quiet

Sometimes it’s not actually the cleat itself but part of the sole of the shoe moving slightly against the pedal as you rotate the cranks. This is often the case if the SPDs are set fairly loose.

Apply a little chain lube to a cloth and sparingly wipe the parts of the sole which are in contact with the pedal before setting off and see if this helps.

If you’re using clumpy MTB winter shoes also check that the side of the sole isn’t touching the cranks as they rotate.

Keep an eye on your feet as you pedal, if you notice that your feet are making significant, rhythmic left to right movements as you rotate the cranks this can be an indication that your bike fit is not quite right, check things like seat height, cleat position etc.

muc off wetlube works great for this. spent a enjoyable afternoon cleaning and fettling today to eliminate the squeaks rattles and groans coming from the steed. sounds like a new bike now. baby wipes are great for cleaning all sorts of crud from difficult to reach areas

I've a pair of shoes that need vaseline dabbing onto the contact areas with a cotton bud - sole and cleats - about every 100 miles. The other pair need it more like every 1,000 miles.

GT85 sorts out my Look Keo cleat squeaks.
