Hi all,

The wife is looking to buy a bike. We have bikes on the back of the camper and use them for a mix of tracks and roads, maybe 20 -30 miles a day. If we both had better bikes this may increase. We sometimes tow a dog trailer too, if this makes any difference,

My bike is a Claude Butler urban 100 about 4 years old and hers is an old mountain bike which probably came from Asda or similar.

She has recently got the cycling bug, after 34 years she finally figured out how to work the gears and now she is really pleased as she can go up hills as well, anyway, she wants to invest in a decent bike.

I'm no expert, but we both think my bike is OK, certainly far better than her bike. So another Claude butler is on the list of possibilities? A Urban 300 without suspension can be had for about £350, slight concern are the tyres may be more suited to road?

Other ones are the Halfords Subway 2 at £350 or the Crossfire 2 at £300. The Crossfire has suspension , so is this best avoided? Have read good things about these.

Opinions please on what or what not to buy? Many thanks in advance

Has your wife been out to a few bike shops for a look see? She'd then get a feel for what's out there :bicycle:good luck!

Yes, She likes the look of the Claude Butler, but perhaps that's just because she`s ridden mine?
Its just that the Halfords bikes are often the ones highly recommended?
We have never tried the Carrera bikes so have no idea how they compare. Are they much the same?
Thanks
