I've just been round to see a friend who has been given a bike by her neighbour. He was a keen athlete back in the day (ran for England apparently). He bought the bike in 1949 and has had it ever since. It's been unused for some time and it shows.
The faded paint has "Sid Patterson" and "Sun" on it. It's got steel/chrome 27 inch wheels, with the rear sporting a flip flop hub. Seat stays are as thin as thin. Lugs are moderately ornate, with chrome on the fork crown.
A swift FWSE tells me "Sid Patterson (14 August 1927 – 29 November 1999) was a world champion amateur and professional track cyclist from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_Patterson
So is it worth a small fortune, an interesting find, or fit for the scrap heap?
