Clanking. Is it my bottom bracket?

Recently I've noticed that if I pedal hard (put pressure on my pedals) that I get a clanking noise. Is this likely to be my bottom bracket (I have an upgraded ridgeback cyclone, hybrid).

If so what is the remedy for this? I've never done any work on a bottom bracket before (although I am going on the Edinburgh Bike Coop maintenence course at the end of this month).

Plus, if you get it wrong you only have to take the bike along to the course to get it fixed for free
