Chrome chainstays - what to do?

I have a bike with chrome chainstays, which is pitted. I tried to clean it up with foil/ coke, but the pits are quite dead.

I would like to use the bike all year, so is there something I can do to paint it or keep the rust at bay?

I dont want to repaint the whole bike as I quite like the patina of it and the painters I have called in London, are not interested.

So any ideas appreciated

thanks

Use DeOx gel to remove any rust and chemically make the expose metal inert. They you can either keep it well sprayed with WD (other brands are available) or spray it with a clear lacquer.

thanks will give that a go.

I thought of taping them up, but if water gets inside the tape I thought it would make it much worse.

I looked at the chainstay protector but I need something to go on the inside of the chainstay.

I wonder if once I use the deox thing I should just wrap some old inner tube and close it all with some cable ties. It will not look nice but should prevent further damage, maybe.

Is 500g of DeOx sufficient or do I need the bigger bottle?
