Chipped wheel rim

Half way through this mornings ride, I applied my back brake only to hear and feel a click / click noise. I stopped to take a look and could not see anything, so carried on home using the front brake only. 25 miles, with one brake is not as bad as I thought it would be...

When I got home I looked again to see what the issue was and found a "chip" on my wheel rim. It looks like a stone was thrown very hard at the rim (not possible as i was on the bike) so not sure what happened. So whats left is a 2mm round, jagged chip in the rim. This really catches when the brake block passes over it and makes a loud noise / shakes the bike.

Is this the end of the rim or can i sand it down, or something else??

Cheers, and over to the experts;)

You can sand it down but use very very fine paper and take it slow

Thanks, so this is a job best done by hand? Looks like sand paper will take a long time, would a fine file do the job or it that to harsh?

No, not sure what happened, braked on one hill and all was fine, then braked on the next and there it was.

I think your right, i should remove the burr with an appropriate drill bit, sand down and see how I go.

Like Spandex says do it by hand you will find it does not take long, using a power tool you seriously run the risk of going through the rim.

Are you sure it's not the rim wearing through?
