Chip on rear rim - can I just file this down?

Hi, relatively new to cycling and noticed this on my rear wheel yesterday. I don't know how it happened (I don't remember curbing the bike or anything) but when under braking it's making a "ch-ch-ch-ch" sound. I did stop for a loo break and when I came back the bike had fallen over, so it could have been caused by that but I didn't notice the problem straight away.

I did about 35-miles with it like this, and when I got home the brake block on that side seems fine as far as I can tell.

Can I just file this down with something - if so, what would be recommended to use? Or is a new wheel required?

Someone mentioned they thought the tyre looked to be pumped up too much. For info, I have had the bike about 6-weeks and got it from a respected LBS. According to my pump (which I guess could be reading wrong, although it's brand new), it's at about 90PSI. The other side of the tyre/wheel looks fine to me.

Yes, a quick scrape or file will get the protrusion off.
Then a quick wipe with some fine emery cloth if you've got some.

Thanks very much for the quick reply. I'll do that this morning and get out for a ride. It's beautiful down here so seems a shame to waste it!

As above file but thatntyre looks aabit damaged too id thourughly check that, look at the psi reccomendation on your tyre that will tell you the correct pressure but as its for a road bike that sounds in the correct region

Regarding the tyre pressure, what does it say on the tyre? There should be information moulded into the sidewall which will include the maximum pressure. If you're not exceeding that and there are no other issues with the tyre (bulges or cuts) then no problem.
