I cycled it last Sunday. Chepstow to Monmouth past Chepstow Racecourse, Tintern, over the bridge to Redbrook and then Monmouth.
It's a very pretty ride but two things to remember: Firstly, some of the road surfaces are dreadful, particularly on the Welsh side and secondly, you'll have a long hill to negotiate on the way back from Tintern to Monmouth. There's a nice park in Redbrook, by the Wye, to stop for a snack.

Thanks for that,I will probably do it on a nice day that coincides with a day off sometime over the winter.Cycling around the Vale of Glamorgan makes dreadfull road surfaces the norm so I guess I can put up with that.:-)

It's a nice ride. Stop at the Old Station at Tintern for a cuppa, and (possibly) The Boat at Redbrook (over the old railway bridge) for a pint. There's a pretty steep climb out of Monmouth on the B road, but you'll be ok. Should be a nice ride.

+1 on the Old Station

Yup, the Boat's worth visiting. The 'A' road can get busy in summer, but it's never that bad. You can turn off left (actually straight on) just before the traffic lights on the river bridge for a lanes finish into Monmouth.
