Any people who are after such a device can I recommend the orange San Francisco mobile phone. I got one a few weeks back and it's a fully fledged android phone with plenty of free tracking software such as mytracks available. Best £85 i've ever spent. I also managed to plan a route and use it as a bike gps where it told me which direction to turn at the appropriate time. On top of this it can connect to other devicessuch as heart monitors etc.

Hi Dirk

Glad to hear you've sussed out a way to use an android phone on your bike.

How did you manage to plan a turn by turn route? If I use Google Maps directions it'll just take the shortest/least cycle friendly route

on google maps, when you do it on your computer anyway, you can zoom in and grab the route and pull it anywhere you want, and round any bend you want... i dunno if this is possible on android devices tbh, i'm (grudgingly) an iphone guy (apple-slave) now, i dont think you can do it on my phone, but i would have to look into it further to be sure

There's also stuff like iMapMyRide and Ridewithgps where you can use your computer to draw routes, then send them to your phone.
They also track speed, distance time and pace so no need for a cycle computer, unless you want cadence
