I'm thinking of changing the tyres on my bike from the currently fitted Land Cruisers to Gator Skins as they appear to be a heck of a lot lighter. Anyone else had experience of both tyres that would like to offer me some advice?

Thanks in advance

IME Conti Gator skins are not as good as their 4-Seasons nor the Schwalbe Durano Plus.
I've had 3 sets of Gator Skins with side wall splits.

Gatorskins really are very good for puncture protection, I used a pair for 3,500 miles and only suffered two punctures.

I really don't rate their wet weather grip however so I didn't replace them, I have gone for Michelin Krylion Carbon instead.

If you shop around you can get Gators very cheap at about £18 each and the puncture protection IMO is very good. However if you value wet weather grip then I would avoid them...

I commute about 10 miles on roads, and regurlary go for a ride at the weekend which invloves towpaths and cyclepaths. Would the gator skin be ok for these surfaces in the wet?

Yes - though you might be better with at least 28mm. I've had mine for a couple of years and never had a puncture yet (touch wood). I've also never had an issue with grip in the wet.

I'm just after a way to bring the weight of my bike back down after fitting mudgaurds, paneir racks, pannier bags, bottle, pump, saddle bag etc.. Sounds like they fit the bill then
