hi I'm new on this site and to road bikes. I have not long brought a carrera tdf limited from halfords. The Nike is fine and I'm very pleased with it but as it only 14 speed I was thinking about changing the cassette to I can get a higher top speed is this sumthing I cud do. Sorry if this is a stupid question

Depends on the cassette range .count the teeth on the smallest ring at the back . the lower the number the higher gear ( faster) .11 teeth is the lowest standard cassette so if its 11 changing the cassette will make no difference .Then you get to changing the front chain rings which gets a bit more complicated . The easier way to go faster is to get fitter just ride and ENJOY and speed will come

Hi, lots will say that a higher top speed is only achieved by peddling quicker. The "top" gear ratio itself on your 7 speed cassette is probably a 13 or 14, which should be more than ample for leisure riding (non racing). Going quicker on a bike is not so much the max speeds you achieve, but by raising the minimum speeds on the hard sections. The latter has a lot to do with legs & fitness, but is achievable with regular rides.

Good luck
Keith

Did you take a bike plan out with halfords . They would fit the part bought from them for free I believe . You could still take one out £20 for a year . Probably less than buying the tools . Worth an ask in store

I didn't take that out no what are the benifits
All work carried out is free you just pay for parts all accessories fitted free. Free puncture repair .I took it out for my bike last year I as knew nothing about bike maintence . Bike has been back three times mainly gear adjustment all free including when I knocked the jockey wheels out of line knocking the bike over . I my a opinion well worth it . Halfords have a bad rep on here but service varys shop to shop and my Leicester branch seems OK
