Hi and apologies for another topic on an old theme - I tried searching but couldn't find an answer.

I decided to change the tyres on my Specialized Sirrus Sport for something a bit more puncture resistant (went with Specialized Armadillos as the Marathon Plus are apparently very difficult to fit on the Sirrus rims). The shop didn't have the 700c 28 that I usually use but had 25 and said they would be absolutely fine. Was I advised badly? I realise that it's going to be a bit more bumpy but will the difference be uncomfortable on a 10 mile commute (all on road).

All advice gratefully received. Thanks.

I shouldn't panic... I switched from 25s to 23s on my flat bar roadie after 6 months on the 25s, more speedy but no less comfy over a 12 mile road route.

25's will be fine for your commute.
I ride 23's (Armadillo's) through bumpy old SE London and they are fine.

Armadillos are usually quite easy to fit over the rims. Can fit and take off without levers. Just takes a little practice.

I bought my sirius with 32 armadillos on and switched to 23 gatorskins.
There wasnt too much of a differance, however I did have the wheels changed also to RS10's. What differance that made I dont know!

Didnt need tyre levers fitting the gatorskins.

I've just bought a second-hand bike with 700x28 Specialized Armadillo tyres. - So far i've been given no reason to doubt that the tyres are highly puncture resistant, and they do seem to provide a reasonably comfortable ride and have plenty of grip. The only trouble is boy are they HEAVY.

Unless you're carrying a lot of luggage for a road commute I would have thought you'd be much better off with the 23/25mm versions. Save a bit of weight and increase your speed.

If the rides too uncomortable you can always run the tyres at a slightly lower pressure?

Not so worried about tyre weight when I'm carrying 18 stone! Hopefully I will be soon...

Lighter tyres make a bigger difference than you would imagine.

On my commuter hybrid I use heavy Michelin Pilots in winter and much lighter Bontrager Race lights in summer.Main reason is The michelins have extreme puncture protection when I ride over glass etc that I didnt notice in the dark,

When I fit the summer tyres it feels like a new bike or a much fitter rider is turning the crank for me  Adding the same weight in the panniers wouldnt make any noticeable difference but on the tyres is very noticeable.

If its any comfort ( excuse the pun ), my BSA 20 runs on Raleigh Record 20 x 1 3/8" standard canvas and rubber tread.

I haven't had a P* in over a year, about six hundred miles.

I inflate them overpressure 70 psi vs 65 psi, and ride in the inside tyre track where its cleaner.
