Hello all

I apologise if this is something that has been asked before, but I have searched and couldn’t it.

Can I run my 11 speed cassette and chain on a chainring advertised as 9/10 speed compatible???

I got the old micrometer out and tried to measure the thickness of the rings and I find it hard to distinguish between a 9 speed ring and an 11 speed ring??

Is there an industry standard thickness??

Thanks in advance.

Yes is the answer. It's the cassette that's usually the issue.

Thanks for that. It does make me wonder why they advertise chainrings as being 9/10 compatible.

Are you sure it is a 9 speed ring? "9/10 speed compatible" seems to be implying that it's an 11 speed ring that could be used with a 9/10 speed chain.
