chainring noise?

After advice on here I changed the cassette and chain, its great no jumping and very smooth, however when on the large chainring I can hear a sort of whirring noise which wasn't there before, I recently chnaged the BB cups but didn't hear it then with the old chain/cassette. is it just a case of the chain bedding in? There's no noise when its on the inner ring.

Not sure if it's related, but having just changed the chain on mine, but still retaining original cassette and chainrings, i detect a 'vibrating' sensation from my bike, like its resonating. everythings working fine, but i did wonder if it's the new chain meshing with the old cassette or chainrings.
Oldgrey ? did you fit Fulcrums ? Just thought, mine make a completely different sound to the wheels they replaced. I did wonder if its air passing the spokes at high revolutions, its almost like a whirring sound.

Sounds like the chain is just brushing the outer plate of the front changer. If you can pop the bike in a stand or get someone to hold the back end up while turning the pedals give a pull on the cable and see if it stops. If it do just add a bit of tension to the cable. You may need to adjust the limiter to allow a bit more outwards movement, not a lot , just do 1/2 turns at a time.

Thanks for the replies.

gbb: Yes I did fit fulcrums, but they've been on a while and the noise wasn't there until I fitted the new chain and cassette, also at the same road speed on the inner ring it doesn't make any noise. They do whoosh a bit though when cracking on.

rusty: I checked for clearance on the front mech, there's no fouling on either plate, can't really detecet the sound when its unloaded either.

Perhaps its just my ears!

Prob irrelevant but I spent ages tracking down a similar sound only to discover it was vibration from the left hand gear shifter. A tiny bit of foam under the chain ring indicator (can't thing what it's called) and noise gone. :becool:

Can you confirm that you have checked the chain ring with the chain on the large chain ring and the small sprocket at the back, if the chain is not on the small sprocket, there may be clearance on the chain ring.

Everything points to what Rusty has said, ands thats where I look first when I get it on my bikes

Zacklawas: Yes I checked it with the chain on the large ring and small sprocket, and one in the middle too, just to be sure I rechecked it again it appears to have clearance, maybe it moves under load, I'll try moving it out a 1/2 turn and bring a screwdriver with me on the next ride
