Chain Wear .50 streched so far & HGX Chains

Dear All

Just checked my mountain bike chain wear with the park tool and it is showing .50 wear, the .75 section does not go in.

When will I need to change it.

I have a trek fuel ex8 and it has an XT chainset. On it, it says HGX chains only. I wanted a KMC chain, as it gets good reveiws on this site. Would this work?

Between 0.75 and 1.0. Go over 1.0 and you'll be wearing the cassette and chainrings excessively.

KMC will work.
