Hopefully without starting yet another debate on chain lube can anyone tell me how, when using wax chain lube, you determine when it needs re-lubing. I have always used oil, the lack of which is obvious with little more than a glance. This dry wax stuff seems to be fairly invisible though. Is it just a matter of feel, or top it up once a week or how? The lube in question is Halford's BikeHut Drywax Lubricant which has PTFE in it as well as the wax. I was unable to get any Finish Line and the Halfords was all I could get.

I would use the stuff sparingly and only re-lube when the chain was beginning to sound dry and noisy or even squeaky. I use Finish Line, which is some kind of wax in a volatile carrier and I only apply it every 3-4 weeks or after a good wash down or chain clean.

Finish line stuff too. I re apply after wet rides, but leave for dry rides. Occasional wipes to remove excess waxy dirt deposits. It makes my fixed run almost silent, so when the chain rattle re appears, I apply again.

I've only just started using Wurth dry lube on my Cannondale chain but I had decided to do what Globalti and fossyant suggested between them - lube after wet rides, once every few weeks or when the chain sounds like it needs it.
