i just done my first bike build and when i to shortened the chain following a guide using both large rings then adding 2 link plus 1 master link ( so i just added 3 links not using master link) any way instead of adding 3 links i remove 3 extra links instead noob mistake.

so i now unable to shift in the the 2 largest sprockets when in the large chain ring i would never use this combo anyway. i tested it doing 10 miles and its all running really nice and smooth would it cause problems if i left like this as long as i dont shift in to them 2 gears.?

i could add more links later but for now will it be ok?

I would imagine if you are unable to use the full range of gears then your chain is not only too short but it will also be too tight this could result in early chain stretch and the chain could possibly snap if you put it under too much strain going uphill in too high a gear. If you leave it as is for a considerable length of time then add the spare links you will have a chain that has stretch with three new links in it and that could also cause problems.

Get the links back in asap.

as above, you will exasabate chain wear as you are stretching the chain when on the larget it will go.

The 2 + ML are there to take into account the movement required for up / down / and changing.

If you cant get the 3 back in, take it to your LBS.

Stretching or wearing the chain? I find that very unlikely. Run it as it is and don't use the gears you can't reach. Add the missing links as soon as you can, as if you forget about the unreachable gears and try to select one you stand a chance of bending the rear mech.

Chains don't stretch, they wear.

Add the extra links back in; you risk breaking the right-hand chainstay if you over-shift onto the wrong combination. Seriously.
