Does anybody know how this type of chain splitter works? What's the screw at the end for?

Sorry, my bike has a belt. Requires several other tools to adjust. Just something else to drag around.

Do wonder what I do if it breaks. The walk of shame, I suppose

You place the link over the first cutout if it's a fairly coarse pitch, operate the screw to remove the pin. If you have a finer pitch place it over the second cutout, screw the black adjuster on the other side to hold it in place, this has a recess for the pin.
That's how I use mine.
That tool looks like it has a large pin. Does it have an optional finer pin?

The screw pushes the pin onto the rivet, to break the chain, you hold the tool by the handle with one hand, turn the screw with your other hand.
I have one of those.
It's OK for occasional use on the road. Mine came with just the one pin.
You need strong hands to make it work: I had to hold the handle with a pair of pliers to be able to operate the screw.
After upgrading to a better tool, I managed fine without pliers.

I've got a chain splitter like this, except for the knurled screw at the opposite end to the handle. I'm guessing it's some sort of end stop, i.e. to stop you pushing the pin out too far. Normally I recognise when the pin has been pushed out just the right amount to let you split the chain without losing the pin but, if I'm right on this, it wouldn't half be great if by adjusting the knurled screw you could just merrily turn the handle without risk of pushing the pin right out.

Where did you get it from, I want one!!!

You can get them on ebay.

They're doing a 'buy one, get one for 55% off' deal so I don't think they're particularly durable

Isn't the lever on the other end supposed to do that ?
Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well there lol
You turn the lever, this turns the screw that pushes the pin that pushes the rivet out of the chain.
I've got weak hands, the lever hurt on turning.
Forgot to say in my previous post, the pin can bend too.
