I have checked my chain with a non park device and sadly the device fits in the links. So replacement required, however i have a cube sl cross comp which is fitted with a shimano cn-hg53 112 links.
I have not been able to find one of these on line. Has this type finnished?? There is similar recorded on some web sites but these have more links. Is there a like for like around??
Thanks

You don't need to buy the exact chain, in fact IMO the Shimano chains are an unnecessary faff to fit, whereas chains like KMC have a quick link and are quickly fitted, all you need to do is buy a chain that corresponds with the number of cogs on your bike (ie 5-8,9,10or11sp)

Shimano hg53 are widely available. But without quick links and requiring special connecting pins Shimano chains are a pain with little to recommend them. Pick any kmc or sram 9 speed chain instead.

In case your query is specifically about 112 links, chains generally come too long so you simply remove links to fit your bike with a chain tool.

Agreed Fossyant! Get a KMC I reckon they are great. I have an 8 speed version on the winter bike, and the 10 speed version on my 2 good summer bikes. Yes it is a bit of a bind shortening the chain to the required length, but you would have to do that anyway. Once you have done that the connection is a doddle and you can take the chain apart in seconds if you want to clean it. I did buy the kmc tool to split the chains......even quicker and easier and the tool wasnt much.

Snapped a Shimano in Mallorca a couple of months ago on a hire bike whilst on the flat riding through Alcudia on the way back to Puerto Pollensa. In the big ring, put some power on and it went, good job I was on the flat. A mate of mine on a very nice Colnago had a genuine campag chain go on him on a short climb round where I live. Not nice to see. Fortunately very minor damage!! I have managed many thousands of miles with KMC chains on my 3 bikes and touch wood I have been lucky. Hopefully it will stay that way, and the KMC's will be good to me.

Not all KMC chains are good! This is one of their most expensive 10 speed ones after less than 200 miles. Fortunately I was alerted to the problem by the chain skipping, and thought the gears needed indexing. I didn't return the chain to the supplier as I had bought it 'on offer' almost 2 years before I fitted it. I replaced it with a Veloce chain, using a KMC link (Campag specific).

Good choice, and hopefully you will come to appreciate the ease of use of them. I know others have not been so positive, but I can only speak highly from my experiences. We are all entitled to opinions and I wouldn't want to upset anyone else.
