When I change gear to get more resistance and go quicker (rear cassette) the chain seems to slip and then adjust (usually to the gear I want, sometimes not) - what are the possibilities?

Had new rear cassette fitted about a month or 6 weeks ago but just noticed this problem the last few days.

My first thought is that the indexing is slightly out. This is simple to sort out: some instructions here or there is a choice of videos available on YouTube.

My slightly cynical second thought is; Did you replace the chain as well as the cassette? If not, the worn chain may not be meshing properly with the new cassette. I'd usually expect this show itself sooner though so indexing is the more likely culprit.

If it was a new cassette / old chain problem then tjhe slipping would be instantly apparent?

In my defence...this was all done under a service...so I'd have thought that if they decided the rear needed replacing they'd have checked the chain.

Then again, they left my brakes howling and the barrel adjusters loose so I guess I shouldn't be surprised
