hi, the chain on the inner front ring on the Girlfriends bike keeps coming off.....on the side nearest the frame, would be the best way I can describe it. I assume the front derailed needs adjusting, but I'm unsure how to adjust it...

Can anyone offer any advice please?

Thanks in advance!

The 2 trim screws on the top of the front derailleur control how far the derailleur moves inwards or outwards. Sometimes they are helpfully marked as H and L - if so turn the one marked L about 1 full revolution in a clockwise direction. If the screws are not marked you may have to look carefully to see which screw does which.....often the L screw is the inner of the 2 - but not always.

As above - move the shifter so it is sitting in the small ring.
Put the rear gears into the largest ring so you are in the lowest of low gears.
Screw IN the screw nearest the frame marked L (Inner screw inner ring, outer screw outer ring - screw it in moved it out, screw it out moves it in).
Screw down (clockwise) until the chain JUST rubs on the front derailleur when pedaling, then turn it 1/4 turn back so you have approx 1 - 2mm clearance.

You might need to give the gear leaver a bit of a flick to retake in any remaining slack.

then move to the largest ring and smallest sprocket and do the opposite, to allow for the outside of the hanger to just be missing the chain closest to you.
