Oily rag - works wonders, and a damn site faster than getting the jet wash out (plugging in, washing, packing away...)

If worried, soak the chain in lube, and run through a rag a fair amount, give it a srub with said rag..sorted...still faster than a jet wash......

chain cleaning method -

get baked bean tin (clean and empty) pour small amount of petrol in to cover chain, drop chain in,

match is optional but fun

Thanks for all the advice and links etc. Despite using Muck it off dry lube and cleaner it seems to gum up quite quickly .Even after a good off the bike soak in degreaser its soon a black sticky mess again.Just one of those never ending jobs I guess.

You could be using too much lubricant Banjo, you only need a drop on the inside of each roller, spin the chain a few times and wipe off the excess.
