I'll be doing this, probably sometime in Jul/early Aug in prep for the Bealach ride. Anyone fancy making it a forum ride?

Start at
picnic/viewpoint
in Glen Cochill.
Along Glen Cochill to Amulree,
turn right.

Glen Quaich from Garrow
.

Turn left follow
South side of Loch Tay
(which you'd think would be flat, but is in fact quite up & down!)to Killin. Through Killin, turn left up Glen Lochay

Lairig nan Lunn from Kenknock

Down Glen Lyon and over the Bealach na Lairige from Bridge of Balgie

Turn left, follow A812 to Kenmore. Turn left at golf club.

Follow minor road along North bank of the Tay through Weem, Dull, to Aberfeldy, A826 Glen Cochill arrive back at start.

That's about 90 miles, with some good ascents, and some even better descents! took me about 6:50 (ride time) by myself a few years back, 7:45 including lunch stop at Bridge of Balgie and a few map checks here and there.

Anyone fancy it?

I volunteer Seamab .

It looks a great ride - now, if I could get fit enough for that, the Ken Laidlaw would be a doddle ....

It would need to be [the first] one of the proposed "Challenging" CC Ecosse Forum rides. So that's Seamab, magnatom and .... errrr .... errmm ... (gavintc coming back from Italy ??)

Would it be possible to also have a shorter route around Loch Tay for the more feeble cyclist?

You're ahead of me. At some stage before this, I'll be driving up to Kenmore, and pick up the route from there.

South side of the loch to Killin, up Glen Lochay and over to Glen Lyon. Down to Bridge of Balgie and over the Lawers visitor centre then back to Kenmore. That comes in at around 60 miles.

Thanks Scoosh for volunteering me:eek:

Looks like a good route. Why not start/finish in Aberfeldy?

Glen Quaich is brutal - much shorter from the side you are proposing but still a real brute. I've only done it once and said never again!

I've been meaning to do the Glen Lyon/Ben Lawers bit for some time but never quite got round to it.

Early to mid July would probably suit me.

My pleasure  - I knew that, having done the Radar Ride you'd be daft enoughwell able to do this one

Good idea and it avoids .....

.... having to go UP from Kenmore towards Garrow/Glen Quaich - it's vertical

"Meaning to ..." - are you nuts  ??? That's about as bad as Kenmore/Glen Quaich - only longer .... isn't it ?

Sounds good  when are we going ?

Anyone else noticed how 'snow fever' enables one to do amazing rides ?

The ride then starts with a climb with no warm up.

It is shorter from this side, but steeper I think (I seem to recall struggling more this way!) - it also links up with the undulating road along the south side of the loch (trying to mimick the climb of the Bealach followed by the peninsula road) then links up nicely with the climb from Kenknock.

The descent of this is FUN . I was thinking late July/ early Aug, maybe mid Jul would be good (depending on enthusiasm !).

Edit: Scoosh, it's not an easy ride, but not impossible. It was a great day out, and I'm no racing snake.

Oi! Who volunteered me!

It certainly looks interesting. I'll have done my Home to the in-laws ride by then, so it should be a doddle!:laugh:

I'm almost certainly a possible. With our third child due literally any moment, my time will be tight for the foreseeable future. However, If a date is set then I can try and keep it free.

Once the weather improves, I'd be happy to do a local tour of Crow Road and Tak Ma doon as a warm up!

Then it ends with a long climb and nowhere near a cafe.

I've only driven down this road and remember it as being a long but not very steep drag (3 miles?). Might be good to use this as a warm up and take it easy to get one of the hills out of the way early on.

I'd agree that it is steeper this way and i really struggled at one point and was tempted to put a foot down.
Coming from Kenmore is much longer but there are a couple of sections to get a slight respite. I passed cars on the way up with people cheering me on and indicating i was mad.

I'll be on holiday late July/early Aug
