Hi there newbie here, can anyone tell me where to get the glasses worn by Cav during the TDF. The ones I am interested in are the carbon look ones with green lens
Thanks

Well the glasses are Jawbones if I remember correctly and they aren't cheap. Can't see anywhere doing green lenses though, Oakley themselves aren't showing anything but you can customise the colour of the frame on their site. Here

IIRC Oakley made a load of green accessories specifically for Cav for his 2010 TDF. Might be why you cant find the specifics.

The carbon ones are/were a limited edition called echelon, you should still be able to get them - they come with a photochromic lens though rather than the jade iridium lens that i think Cav used.

If you knew how cheaply those plastic glasses are manufactured you wouldn't buy into that particular fashion con. It's as bad as women who buy designer shoes.

I'd quite like some but only because I struggle to find glasses that don't steam up and the jawbones are vented at the top. So far I've tried Oakley Half-Jackets: look good, great in summer, useless now; and PBK ones: don't look quite so good but I can use them for another month or so before I'm blind at traffic lights.

Any suggestions on a decent set (I know it's a personal thing and everyone has different shaped faces etc) preferably vented at the top of the lense ala jawbone?

I could cycle slower I suppose......

I went to TK Max and bought some quite cool wraparound sunglasses for £12.99. Popped the lenses out and got my neighbour who is an optician to glaze them to my prescription with the cheapest possible plastic lenses, which cost £50. They do the job of protecting my eyes while looking good and not mattering if they get smashed or lost, unlike my regular specs, which have fancy Zeiss lenses and cost a bleedin' fortune.

But they contain unobtainium!

UNOBTAINIUM!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unobtainium

In engineering, fiction, and thought experiments, unobtainium (also spelled unobtanium) is any extremely rare, costly, or impossible material, ... The concept of unobtainium is often applied flippantly or humorously.

...

The eyewear and fashion wear company Oakley also frequently denotes the material used for many of their eyeglass nosepieces and earpieces ... as unobtanium.

Now that I've found out the style, guess what, out of stock, does anyone know of a pair for sale, preferably new.

Thanks

If you want new then Wiggle stock them:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/oakley-jawbone-sunglasses-vented-lens/

Bought a pair in the US from Oakley store in San Jose, they were reduced (don't know why) and the exchange rate made them a steal, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Have to say they do work quite well and the venting does prevent steam up when you stop for a bit (at traffic lights etc...). My other pair is a cheap set of Raleigh sunglasses:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Raleigh-Sunglasses/dp/B000W4CSU4/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1316110971&sr=8-7

They are great to wear on cloudy days with the clear lenses in.
