Would Brailsford back Cav over a Sky rider at the worlds. Cav reckons he's got a good chance and I'm sure DB would fully support a UK rider but would Sky rather see a Sky rider given preference? would it be a conflict of interests?

Considering Brailsford has shown a disappointing lack of integrity over the signing of riders with still a year to fulfil on their contracts with their current teams; why would he behave any differently and support a rider from a rival squad?
He has taken the Murdoch twenty pieces of silver and is now a pawn of Sky!!

Oh, come on. Contracts are just financial deals; they are bought out fairly regularly now and will continue to be - same in most sports.

And Cavendish's patriotic credentials are what, exactly?

Ooh, he came up through the development system, he rode for Britain in the Olympics, he rode the nationals last year, and he's Britain's most successful current pro-cyclist - what other 'credentials' are there? Sky isn't the national team, you know... and considering he's a Manxman, he's shown a lot more commitment to 'Team GB' than some mainlanders - remember the debacle at the World Championship a few seasons ago when the Brits on Italian pro-teams effectively rode for Italy?

Are we seeing the usual British trend here, of moaning when we don't do well and then bashing someone as soon as they get successful?

Eh? He sacrificed any chance of the green jersey in 2008 to ride for Team GB in Beijing and was then effectively given little or no help towards the Madison.
He intended to ride the World's this year but was forced to pull out due to illness and possibly the terrible injury to Johnny Bellis.

Yeah, but apart from that, what did he ever do for us? ;)

So he got a job working for a British state subsidised team, then got another job elsewhere and is now being persistently misquoted...

I have absolutely no idea what your beef with Cav is. No, really, I don't!
If you'd care to explain your position a bit more cogently we could see whether you had a point. Until then it's just a gibberish rant;)

Personally I think DB will want to have the best shot at winning and he/BC will pick a GB Team they believe most likely to get placed, whilst keeping an eye to future development, regardless of trade team affiliation.

As FM says, Sky aren't the British team.

Why wouldn't Brailsford base his national squad around the rider with the best chance? Of course that's Cavendish - he'll be one of the favourites.

Well he got most of the points that let GB take a 9 man team there last year too, but apart from that, sacrificing any chance of the green jersey in 2008 for Beijing, only withdrawing last year because of illness...

Sorry if that didn't come across right. I was trying and obviously failing to add to Flying Monkeys comment a la the life of Brian

All right... all right... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?
