I just accidentally dropped my Velo 8 on to a carpeted floor from a height of about one and a half feet. On picking it up, I find its flashing the mph symbol and my odo data is gone...nooooooooooo!

Not happy

It doesn't even let you manually enter the data

That's odd. My Velo 8 has had some abuse and shocks and never missed a beat so I can't say a lack of robustness is one of it's faults. Maybe the battery is loose in yours for some reason? Now you have lost your data anyway perhaps it is worth opening up the battery compartment to check the contacts.

My brother dropped my Cat Eye Velo 8 during a ride at Christmas and it bounced/cartwheeled along the tarmac for a distance of at least 20-30 yards as we were riding at around 20mph when it happened. It was fine and simply clipped back into the carrier and normal service resumed.

I've used Velo 8s for some time- cheap and do the job I need them to do. Dropped them, ridden them off-road, all-weathers. As the Skol man says maybe the battery is a bit loose in it's compartment and shifted around a bit when dropped. If so perhaps try giving the contacts a gentle bend to make the battery fit better.

I've taken the battery out and refitted it, to be honest it seems snug especially with the back cover firmly on - I just can't understand it. I'd be a little less miffed if I could just re-enter the Odo reading and get back to where I was...
