Cateye Vectra

Have just fitted a Cateye computer to my bike. Set the computer up ok, but when I ride it doesn't register anything! Now I know it's probably me just being dim, but I can't figure out what I've done wrong. Any suggestions?

did you make sure that the wheel magnet passes by the fork magnet but NOT in the middle of the fork magnet?

i.e. in the top or bottom third

and that its no more than about 4 mm away?
