I bought the above lights last year and they are good, however in the new nuclear arms race that is lumens, I was looking to mod the LEDs fro some cree`s  It can be done and quite easily apparently, just wondered if anyone on here had done so or new someone who had ?

Not me, but I would be looking via google at some of the MTB and singletrack forums as there is a lot of homebrew lighting work going on in those.

I almost bought a set, glad I didn't now. The progress in LED lighting has been truely amazing, hasn't it?

thats the problem i suppose now its like pc upgrades, stuffs out of date before you fit it to your bike ;) Apparently fitting crees to these babies doubles the output to about 400 lumens, which would be nice and bright

Now if only someone could tell me exactly which ones to buy as they all look the same to me :s

well started stripping them down to components parts today, new LEDs and thermal adhesive still not here, however I can confirm that the screws are made of cheese  the centre black screws are crapola, got one out the other drilled.

Ok I won`t bother with pictures as its already well documented elsewhere, the deed is done and its working, it looks brighter but TBH I really need to wait till total darkness. As for how easy it was, ermm:biggrin: thats another matter, I wouldn`t say it was easy but its not hard.

1) I bought SSC P4 U bin stars, probably better buying just bare emitters.
2) If you buy the above be prepared to cut away all the excess PCB as they won`t fit other wise.
3) the screws holding it all togethor are crapola, typical japenese cheese head screws
4) Because of the shitty screws mine is just all glued in with the arctic adhesive, I doubt it will come loose as with the front cover on its very tight.
5) I had to make up new wires to join the stars togethor but they are cut too neat. you have to allow for movement round the inside curved shape of the base.

So in summary its working, from the outside it looks fine, didn`t need to reuse any of the screws or plastic plates from inside etc. Will post back tonight with updates on how freekin bright it is hopefully

ok tested in dark it certainly seems alot brighter, more flood light tho, battery times are more or less same if not slightly better. I would say worth it but not if your of nervous disposition  Think it would of been a bit easier doing this at my work were i have all the tools I would need, taps new screws etc. So it was abit heath robinson when done at home but then I improvised. BTW these lights get freekin hot when just sitting there, think need that air cooling effect when on the bike ;)
