I use Shimano cassettes, 8 speed, for the Hybrid bike, normally 11/28 teeth.
However, I normally ride in the top or second top gear, which means that the 11 tooth and 12 tooth gears wear out much quicker than the rest.
These tend to be the 'loose' rings on the cassette, with the other six fixed.
Is it possible to buy these rings separately, if so where? I have not found any yet.

What size are your chainrings?

The reason for asking about the chainrings is that you may need to use your 48 chainring more to avoid using the 11 and 12 cassette cogs all the time... if however you are super fit and using the 48 - 11/12 combination all the time, you could get try 50/42/30 chainrings to compensate...

Wow, super fit! Yes, I do use the 48 ring all the time, and this wears out when the 38 and 28 are virtually unused. So I'm pretty much at the top end of the range most of the time.
Re: moving to a 50 ring, not thought of this, but certainly worth investigating.

Quite frankly if you are pushing 48:11 most of the time, you need to learn to use your gears!
