Will it be ok to ride the yorkshire dales with a 12-26T 9 speed cassette. A few people have advised to change it to a 11 - 28.
Dunno is it? Whatever you feel comfortable with. Could even try a 11 - 32 or 11 - 34
11 - 32 I'd need a longer derailer. At least a 28 I shouldn't have to adjust anything else.

Years ago now, I toured through the Yorkshire Dales with a 50/36 and a 13-28. a 34x28 will give you a pretty low gear and it will really depend on you if it's low enough, or depend on the roads you want to ride. Should be OK for all the A and B roads around there.

I will have the power to get up but I don't want to be loosing too much energy if I'm going long distance. I know some people just torque their way up with brute force but it's not really orthodox & I understand it puts unnecessary wear & tear on your teeth.

I changed from a 25 tooth Cassette to a 28 and the difference was noticeable on hills.

Have a read of the above thread it might help. You could look at the specs for your rear mech and it might tell you it won't work but if you buy it and try it on the bike it might. Set the chain length for big sprocket big chainring and the rear mech might not be able to take up all the slack if you shift to small sprocket small chainring but you wouldn't ride in those gears anyway!
