Cassette and Chain Compatibility

Hey guys,
Was wanting to upgrade my 8 speed Sora shifters to some 9 speed Tiagra's. Found the shifters, but now would need a 9 speed chain and cassette.
Was going to order this chain

and

but saw in the description it said 'For Super Narrow 9-speed HG chains'

So must I get a 'super narrow' Shimano chain. or will the 9 speed KMC work okay?

That description is 7 years old when 9 speed was super narrow, I'm sure a 11 speed now would say something similar!

Kmc chain (or any other 9 speed) will be fine.

That 9 speed KMC will work fine. 9 speed chains are narrower than 5, 6, 7 and 8 speed chains, hence the note.

Incidentally, many people on here prefer KMC chains to Shimano ones due to their reliablity and the ease of using the KMC missing links (one of which should be included).

A '9 speed chain' is what you need, ie, SRAM PC971, KMC X9.93 (the X9.73 you picked is fine) or Shimano HG53, for example (I prefer KMC)
