Has anyone else noticed that Carreras new 2011 range of road bikes have got heavier??

For example, this is their new TDF: here
And this is their old one: here

I haven't looked at the other specs, but the weight has almost increased by a whole kilo! It's gone from a pretty heavy 10.9kg to a considerably heavy 11.7!

I just thought that seemed like a step in the wrong direction...

I can't see a hub geared version of the Subway in the new range either, the 'commuter bargain'

one of those bikes is the 'limited edition' so maybe that's why? The 'new' range will be the 2012 models surely?
Nope, the limited edition one is the one which has been running all through 2010 - I don't think it's actually limited edition at all! The 'new' range is the 2011 range, I'm not sure why they've come out so late but that's Halfords for you! However, the old one is shown to be reduced from £450, not sure how true that is, but if it is, then it was once £150 more than the 2011 model. Perhaps the prices will come down next year, who knows!

It looks to be the steel forks causing it.Thats assuming that the limited edition does not have a lighter frame.Anyway, they are certainly different models.

Hmmmm

Carrera Subway 1 2009 20" - 12.45kg
Carrera Subway 2 2010 20" - 14kg
Carrera Subway 2011 - 13.4kg

So up, and back down compared to the previous years, they've also not called it a 'Subway 3' this year.....

The carrera Vanquish has been downgraded, it loses the carbon forks and tiagra shifters for sora.

Looking at the spec it is confused it says carbon on the description and yet in the specs it says ally forks, looking at the picture it looks like a weld so i would guess alloy forks.

The whole range seems to have had a little bit of a downgrade , maybe to make the Boardmans better value ....

It seems a bit ridiculous to me, you don't usually expect a downgrade when a company brings out a new bike.. I know that if I was thinking of buying a Carrera TDF or Virtuoso I'd go elsewhere! I hear Decathlon have some quite good deals...

Production prices and exchange rates have been doing this to bike models for a few years. I think that Spesh pushed the prices up so the 2011 Secteur's were about £150 more than the 2010 models, for instance, and I've seen several 2011 models which were lower specced than the 2010 price-equivalents.

For the record the carrera subways have various models (1 and 2), 2 having disc brakes and 1 having V brakes. So maybe that accounts for the weight on that particular model.
