Hello people. I have a carrera vulcan e spec pedal assist with an issue. The electric assist does not work but the torque sensor does work. The motors good and the battery is too. Please can anyone tell me what the issue is? Thank you

Based on another thread
are there motor cut-offs on the brake levers - and are these working

also - how do you know the motor is OK and the battery is working - just to eliminate people duplicating what you have already done

also - I suppose - are all the cables in one piece - I had a speed detector on mine that had a hole in the cable and messed things up!

There are no motor cut offs. The motor is okay because it doesnt make any weird noises and walk assist works fine too. The battery holds charge fine so I guess it works too. I'm not sure about the cables they look good though

Speed sensor??

control thingy on the handle bars - does that look OK?

if it is not realising that the bike is moving it can cause problems

not much else left!!!

Speed sensor works and the dashboard recognises that the bike is moving

Seems to me that everything is working

except the whole thing

Weird - which probably means we are missing something

I know right it's very weird I'm just thinking of getting whole new electrics and putting them on

Ideally you would have an identical bike and swap parts to and fro to make sure everything work OK on the other bike
and see if anything made the "broken" bike start working

I presume that is not possible??

No I'm going to buy a conversion kit then rip all the old electrics out the bike and install all new ones

So the walk assist works. Therefore the motor is hooked up and working as long as the controller is telling it to go round.
Sounds like the bike isn't getting the signal that the pedals are turning. How do you know the torque sensor works?

This thread on pedelecs forum suggests the sensor can get clagged full of dirt.

I know the sensor works because when I unplug it the error code comes up and then when I replug it the error code goes away again so I assume it works. I've cleaned it a thousand times haha

I'd probably go for a replacement torque sensor as they can play up on Suntour HESC systems. The torque sensor may be faulty and giving very low readings to the controller to make it think you don't need assistance or maybe the battery pack is charging but end of life and just flatlines when its but under any real load. How long have you had the ebike, how many miles and how many charge cycles do you think the battery pack has done?
