I'm looking for a bike for my daily commute,20miles, to replace my road bike. A workmate is selling his little used 2009 vengeance and wondered if this would be worth a punt. Never used a MB so any advice welcome , thanks in advance.
Am unsure why you want to replace a road bike with a mtb for commuting, but it is quite heavy at nearly 15kg and you might also want to know that like most bikes from Halfords they were regularly sold at a discount and for only around £200 new at one point.
Having cycled most days during the winter months, the idea of chunky tyres and suspension to smooth out the bumps and potholes seemed like a better option to skinny tyres.I understand it would be heavier but reckoned on perhaps changing the tyres to make it a bit smoother and quicker on road. My workmate is loaning the bike to me tomorrow so I will take it for a spin and see how it goes, thanks.

I like your thinking. I use a rigid mtb in winter for commuting as it's tougher frame and fits wider tyres. Gives me greater confidence with the poor road surface and the icy fringes.
I use my skinny tyred road bike for Spring - Autumn
